The Theatre Nuts

{November 13, 2008}   Terms to Know

This list will grow and expand as my knowledge does, along with the blog. It is a collection of words (alphabatized, of course) that are helpful to know when in a show yourself, or just to show off to your friends and family when on a trip to Broadway. If you have any suggestions, email them to me! :D

A

Apron- the part of the stage that extends out past the curtain

B

C

Character Shoes- a certain type of shoe worn by girls in many musical productions. They are available in nude or black, as well as with taps. Heel heights and strap designs vary. Many professional productions have specially made character shoes with colors, designs, and materials that match the costumes. ((Picture))

O

Operetta- a show that is mostly in the format and style of an opera, but with a few spoken lines throughout. It’s like a mix between a musical and an opera, and was actually the style developed in between the other two.

P

Prosthetics- things like fake beards or noses that are stuck onto the face or body with some sort of glue. One example of a part that tends to use prosthetics- the Beast in B&TB.
